Edward O'Byrne
Chief Executive Officer, AviLease
Edward “Ted” O'Byrne is the Chief Executive Officer of AviLease, a wholly owned portfolio company of the Public Investment Fund. AviLease was formed and launched under his leadership in 2022 to deliver leasing and financing solutions to airlines globally.
Ted's expertise is building and developing businesses in commercial aviation, having worked in aircraft leasing, private equity and at an aircraft manufacturer.
Ted served most recently as Managing Director, co-Head of Aviation at The Carlyle Group. During his time with the investment firm, he focused on launching and developing new investment strategies centered on aircraft financing.
Prior to that, Ted served as Chief Investment Officer at Aercap from 2011 to 2018. He joined Aercap in 2007, and helped the lessor accelerate its growth to become the world's largest owner of aircraft.
Ted started his career in aviation at Airbus where he held several commercial, contract negotiation and marketing positions, selling aircraft to airlines and leasing companies.
Ted holds an MBA from the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business. He is married with two children and has French nationality, tempered by a life-long multicultural experience.
